Tsunami Warning System Test
There will be a coordinated test of the Tsunami warning system on Thursday, April 2, 2009. This test is co-sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program, and is designed to test the existing communication and response plans in place for the area. Do not be alarmed if you hear Tsunami warning test messages on April 2 being broadcast by TV and radio.
This testing is the first coordinated effort to include the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean regions. The goal of this Tsunami warning system test is to evaluate operational strengths and weaknesses, and help improve the coordination of the different areas involved in the testing.
