Sales Tax Holiday!
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has signed the tax-free weekend bill for August 16 through August 17, 2008. During the tax holiday weekend, the state's 5 percent sales tax will be suspended for purchases up to $2,500. Boats, cars, telecommunications services, gas, steam, electricity, meals and tobacco are all excluded.
The Massachusetts House overwhelmingly supported this bill, passing it by a 139-15 vote. Proponents of the bill believe the tax free weekend will be a boost to retailers, and help with back-to-school shopping.
Updated information will be posted online at the Retailers Association of Massachusetts as soon as it is made available.
