Intuit Fights Free Tax Filing
If filing your tax return is enough to make you nuts, you can put some of the blame on Inutit, makers of the popular tax filing software TurboTax. Intuit has been spending millions of dollars in Washington, fighting against an automated tax system known as "return-free filing". In that proposed system, the government would prepare a tax return and send it to you by mail. You would review the return, make any adjustments required, or elect to have your taxes prepared by a separate system. Sounds simple, right?
But Intuit doesn't want this new system to move forward, and has spent over $11 million dollars in the past five years lobbying against it. You can go to the OpenSecrets.org website to verify how much money Intuit is spending lobbying, here is a link to the Intuit lobbying information which is publicly available.
