Happy Birthday, Internet!
Though the Internet has no definitive date of birth -- it evolved over years from one network to another -- January 1st, 1983 is often cited as the birth of the modern Internet, the Internet as we know it. That date marks the existence of a common protocol by which information was transported across the Internet. There were 213 computers connected to the Internet. Today, 20 years later, there may be as many as a quarter of a billion.
