Countdown to Apollo Mission Recreation
This week Thursday, July 16, marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. To help commemorate this historic event, you can watch the recreation of the mission in real-time at the WeChooseTheMoon.org web site.
The online recreation of this event is brought to you by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum, and sponsored by AOL. The remake of the mission will take full advantage of online technologies and includes a countdown timer for the launch, mission control updates, video, photographs, audio transmissions and over 2,000 pages of declassified mission documents. As part of the online recreation of the event, NASA is releasing previously unseen footage of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon.
You can follow along the Apollo 11 recreation mission to the moon from the WeChooseTheMoon.org web site, through Facebook, and also through Twitter. There will be 3 Twitter feeds which will represent Mission Control (@AP11_Capcom), the Apollo 11 spacecraft (@AP11_Spacecraft), and the Eagle Lunar Module (@AP11_Eagle).
