How do I enable or disable Greylisting?

Greylisting is a technique used to defend email users from spam. Our new mail system, SmarterMail, supports greylisting for email accounts. You have the option to enable or disable greylisting on your email account(s) with c4. Greylisting essentially delays the delivery of an email from a sender it does not recognize for a period of time. This period of time is expected to be between 5 - 30 minutes, with most cases being closer to 5 minutes. If the mail is legitimate the originating server will, after a delay, try again and, if sufficient time has elapsed, the email will be accepted. Subsequent emails from the same sender will not be subject to greylisting, as they are now recognized.

We recommend you enable greylisting on your email accounts, however, it is possible to disable it off at the account level. Instructions for enabling and disabling greylisting are listed below.

To Enable Greylisting at the Account Level

  1. Log into Web mail.
  2. Select Settings (the gears icon) from the menu on the left.
  3. Locate the Accounts Settings page under My Settings.
  4. Under the User tab, uncheck the Disable Greylisting checkbox.
  5. Click the Save button.
