Some of the most pleasant bicycling on the Cape is found right along the Cape
Cod Canal on the service roads there. These roads offer some of the finest
sightseeing that the Cape has to offer. The interesting eight
mile routes provide views of the attractive Bourne and Sagamore bridges
from eye-opening perspectives unavailable to automobile drivers, not to
mention the closeup views of the boat traffic through the Canal, which is
wider than the Panama Canal.
The paths also access the Canal Marina, the
Canal Electric Plant, the Coast Guard Station at Sagamore, the Massachusetts
Maritime Academy, bathing facilities at beautiful beaches, the Scusset Fish
Pier and Bourne Scenic State Park. The Canal is entirely on the level and
the paths are very wide. There are several parking locations available
for bicyclists, but be careful to use designated areas.
