Bob Oberding has had a life long love affair with the arts. As a young boy, he developed a fascination with drawing and began art studies at the Art Students League in New York under the tutelage of well known painters, Reginald Marsh and Frank J. Reilly. During this time from the age of ten and through high school, he was also a professional actor/singer in New York City, appearing in numerous Broadway stage productions, radio, and television. In 1957, Bob graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor of Architecture and practiced architecture in New York, designing churches, schools, institutional facilities and residences. He continued his studies in painting with Lia Yuskavage and drawing at the renowned Salmagundi Club.
Bob retired from architectural practice in 1997 and with his wife, Dot, moved to Cape Cod where he now focuses exclusively on drawing and painting. On the Cape he has studied with master painters John diMestico, Rosalie Nadeau, Paul George, Kely Knowles, Rick Fleury and Marilyn Scofield. Bob was a docent at the Cape Museum of Fine Arts in Dennis and has had his paintings exhibited there in group shows. He recently organized the Orleans Gallery Association, a group of eleven galleries that seek to promote the art and culture of the town of Orleans. He is currently teaching drawing at Nauset Community Education.
Bob has four children and ten grandchildren residing in New York and enjoys visits to see them and to review the New York art scene.
