The
Eastham Police Department has been operating a program to communicate with its
senior citizens for over 25 years. Citizens communicate with the dispatchers at
the Communications Center on a daily basis between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 10
A.M. to alert us that they are O.K.. If the dispatcher fails to hear from a
participant in the program by 10:00 A.M. a cruiser is dispatched to the persons
residence to check on their well being. Over the years many lives have been
saved as a result of this program.
There
is no age limitations on being enrolled in the program. If you live alone or are
ill and you or spouse wish to participate in the program you are certainly
welcome. You can participate briefly or indefinitely if you wish.
This
Reassurance Program provides a sense of security and well being to our current
participants and a friendly voice to speak with each day. Annually the Police
Association in cooperation with the Sheraton Four Points of Eastham provides a
Thanksgiving and Christmas Luncheon to provide an opportunity for the people to
interact and refresh acquaintances. This has recently been expanded to include
an invitation from the Sheraton to the Towns of Orleans, Wellfleet and Truro to
also join in the luncheon. The police departments provide the transportation to
the luncheons if required.
