The
Eastham Police Department has a program to provide residential security checks
to private residences while the owners are away on vacation. During
this period police officers will physically check your residence. They will
inspect your home for unsecured windows, doors, points of possible entry and for
signs of physical damage to property.
The
residence will generally be inspected randomly, if time allows, for the
period of the homeowners absence. There
is no cost associated with receiving this service.
Officer
safety is paramount and if conditions exist that would create special risks e.g.
Ice and Snow the check would not be conducted until the conditions changed.
Who
is eligible to receive this service?
Any
permanent resident of the Town of Eastham is able to receive the benefit of this
residential security check with the following exceptions:
1.
Houses that are being checked by a private security company
2.
Houses that are not occupied and being listed and shown for sale by local
Realtors.
3.
Homes that are under construction.
4.
Homes that are considered seasonal in nature and not occupied on a year round
basis.
In
the case of item #4 the Eastham Police Department has a policy of checking
seasonal homes several times a year during the off-season and will notify the
owner if there are any discrepancies noticed.
How
do I obtain this service?
You
must either come to the Police Station to fill out a House Check Request Form or
download the form from this Web Page and bring it to the Station. The form
contains the information necessary for us to perform the residential security
checks and to have emergency notification instructions in the event of a problem
being discovered. The police department will not accept keys to any residence
under any circumstances. The police department or its employees are not liable
for the home being damaged or broken into during the homeowners absence. It is
the responsibility of the homeowner to notify the police department upon their
return.
