Its a Big World Out There

Thursday, March 7, 2002

In its latest report, the NetRatings service finds that half a billion people get online from home, up 30 million people since the first quarter of 2001.

Oddly enough, the same report suggests that home is not the main place people sign on to the Internet in many nations. Of course, this probably says more about the scope of the sampling, which has been expanded to include more third world countries than any overt change in Internet usage patterns.

The most prevalent theme of the report: "The United States and Canada are rapidly losing dominance on the Internet." Is anyone surprised?
