Heartland Data Breach

Heartland Payment Systems, Inc. disclosed last week that their payment processing system had been breached for a period of time during 2008. Details of the breach, including how many credit cards may have been compromised, are still not known. Heartland, based in New Jersey, processes over 100 million card transactions each month.

In response to the breach, Heartland has set up a web site to provide consumers with information at www.2008breach.com. As new information becomes available, it will be added to the 2008breach web site.

Since the announcement last week, Heartland has been working with the Secret Service, United States Department of Justice, Visa and Mastercard to fully investigate and resolve this issue.
