DVD Burners Burning Up

Friday, September 20, 2002

Even main stream media is picking up this little tidbit. Apparently, there's an issue with some of the latest Pioneer DVD burners. Specifically, they tend to freeze up when used in conjunction with newer media. At which point, the lazer which reads the disc -- similar to the way a phonograph needle reads a record -- damages the lens.

The Pioneer drives have been used in PCs, Macs, and stand alone burners. DVD drives purchased from Cape Cod Computer, c4.net's parent company, are not affected. Pioneer has made a software fix available from their Web site. You can find more information here.
